Getting started is easy: open the app, draw your first frame, press “W” on your keyboard to add a new frame, and draw the second one.
Press the spacebar to play your animation. Have fun experimenting!

First, one line. Then another. Then the magic happens.

When people talk about animation, you often hear: "Why draw by hand? These days, AI does it for you." It's a fair question – artificial intelligence is a powerful tool. But hand-drawing isn’t the past. It’s the future. Because humans create with feeling.

AI creates fast. But you create with meaning. Every line, every movement carries your style and your decisions. It’s not just “impressive” – it’s personal. And that’s something no algorithm can fake.

Frame-by-frame work is meditation. It teaches patience, focus, and precision. Drawing in the Animaator.ee environment is not just about the result – it’s about the process. There’s rhythm and calm in it.

Originality isn’t born from speed. It comes from time and focus. When you create something yourself, it sticks. AI can assist – but only if you have something to say.

Animaator gives you simple tools – but leaves the creativity to you. This isn’t “old-school.” It’s the school of personal style and creative freedom.

EARLY BIRD

Aita had been using animations created with Animaator in her videos even before the app was publicly released. The first movements were born behind closed doors – in sync with her voice and inner world.

Aita Vaher – a voice like a landscape of the inner world

Aita Vaher

Aita Vaher is not just a voice improviser — she’s an expert in relating to the world through voice. Her unique videos on YouTube @AitaHääleimprovisatsioonid bring emotions, moments, and invisible landscapes to life through sound. Now, in collaboration with Animaator.ee, her art has gained a visual dimension.

We spoke with Aita to explore where she comes from, where she’s headed, and what her creativity sounds like.

1. How did you get into vocal improvisation?

I really wanted to study with Anne-Liis Poll. Her alphabet-based methodology opened up a new sense of voice in me. By playing with sounds, my voice developed — it gained nuance, flexibility, and playfulness. It’s not a trick, but a practice that works when you truly dive into it with your heart.

2. How would you describe what you create?

I create a free and flowing voice that moves with the breath. When the voice opens up, the person opens up as well. It’s a natural process that many intuitively recognize — the more you practice, the more alive the voice becomes.

3. Why did you decide to add animation to your videos?

Abstract animation felt like a natural companion to the voice. In collaboration with Marek Tammets, our methods blended — his visuals and my voice. The result is simple, powerful, and speaks its own language.

4. What has the feedback been like?

The feedback has been warm and encouraging. What started as an experiment grew into something bigger. A highlight was the collaboration with saxophonist Eve Neumann — a pure coincidence that felt like destiny.

5. Do you have any rituals before recording?

I start by setting an intention and collecting fragments of text that resonate with me. I experiment with different styles — from speech to melody — until I find what works. It's a mix of listening, trying, and making choices.

6. Where would you like to take your creative work next?

I want to release an album or get on Spotify. For that, I record consistently and gather material. If needed, I’ll look for like-minded collaborators, but for now, I do as much as I can on my own.

The tool matters – but it’s not everything

Yes, it’s true – Animaator is most comfortable to use with a graphics tablet. Smooth lines, natural rhythm, and precise control create the perfect environment for animation.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t create something great without one. On the contrary – limited tools, like drawing with a mouse, teach focus, simplicity, and intentional visuals. It’s often the discomfort that sparks the most inventive creativity.

In the end, it’s not the gear that defines the outcome – it’s the idea. A good idea works with any tool. (Tablet support is still in development – but it’s not far off.)

Did you know that when you engage in visual creativity — like drawing animation — you activate areas in your brain that support focus, logical thinking, and memory? It’s not just “pretty art,” it’s a mental practice that helps you grow in every way.

The Animaator environment is designed so you can start right away, see results instantly, and learn through experimentation. Your thoughts flow in sequence, frame by frame — and that discipline carries over beyond the screen.
